The Edge Sport is the top of the line for the 2018 Edge offerings. This trim comes with 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, all-wheel drive, sport-tuned suspension, adaptive steering, and other aesthetic improvements. Starting at around $40,000 the Sport gets 17mpg during city driving and 24 mpg on the highway.
With the base engine that is a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 245 horsepower, the average rated mpg for city and highway driving are 20 mpg and 29 mpg respectively. The all-wheel drive option clocks in at 20 mpg and 27 mpg for city and highway driving.
The NHTSA includes the Ford Edge in its coveted top category of five stars. The IIHS gave its second best rating of "Acceptable" for the driver-side crash test, and the best rating of "Good" for the remaining subtests. Overall, the Edge offers a great safety profile, especially among vehicles in this price range.
The Edge is considered a crossover vehicle and the amount of cargo space reflects that designation with 39.2 cubic feet in the way back, fully-dedicated cargo area, and a total of 73.4 cubic feet when the rear seats are down.
