The Chevy Camaro was re-imagined for the 2017 model year and has been upgraded with touches of technology and power. Smartphones connect to onboard Bluetooth systems and will be able to access favorite apps through use of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Select and personalize interior lighting color and upgrade the exterior of the classic sports car with racing and rally stripes. When deciding on which trim level, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS or 2SS, will feed the inner race car driver. The 2SS features a Head Up display. Information is projected on the windshield directly in the driver's line of sight. Stay up to date on fuel consumption, speed and engine temperature. Using steering wheel mounted controls select the information that is most critical on a long drive or at the track.
Four trim levels are available this year. The 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS. The SS badge is indicative of the Super Sport and features more performance focused additions such as upgraded suspension, driver information, sport trimmed interior and seating.
All trim levels can be ordered for the two-door coupe or the convertible. This year a seamless power soft top has been added. While traveling up to 30 mph, press a button and the top folds away and is stored beneath a hard tonneau cover for a clean, sleek appearance when enjoying wide open air.
The steering wheel and shift knob are both wrapped in suede, but the seats are simply premium cloth. However, on the 2LT and 2SS heated and cooled front seats are available for improved comfort. Automatic climate control and remote start will bring the interior of the car to a preset temperature before anybody even climbs in.
While standard aluminum alloy are still available, changing times have painted wheels taking over the scene. Upgrade from the base 18-inch wheels to Satin Graphite forged 20-inch wheels, low gloss black, or split spoke gray painted wheels. Mix and match with a variety of rally and racing stripes for a classic sports car appearance with a modern uptick.
The LTs come with the standard 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder SIDI engine with Variable Valve Timing. You might think the base model is going to lack power, but the 2.0L is capable of 275 horsepower for plenty of power when tooling around town and on the highway. The SS features the kicking 6.2L V8 Direct Injection engine with 455 horsepower and 455 foot pounds of torque. With that monster under the hood, the driver totally knows they are driving a sports car.
The 1LT and 1SS offer a six speaker audio system with audio input, AM/FM/CD and MP3 capability. SiriusXM Radio with 1 year subscription is included on all models. The 2LT and 2SS feature a premium nine speaker Bose system with pulse pounding subwoofer and tweeters that produce impressive clarity. The sound system is designed to stand up to the rumble of the beefy V8 engine.
Sports coupes are notorious for having huge blind spots due to the position of the large, low B and C pillars. Advanced safety systems are available on the super sport trims with blind zone and rear cross traffic alerts to help the driver avoid unseen obstacles in heavy traffic. Rear camera and monitor work to provide a clear view when backing into tight spots while avoiding obstacles and pedestrians. Knee and thorax airbags are installed on the convertible.
