The newest Toyota Supra proves that what is old can become new again! Not that the Supra could ever be considered past its prime. Still, this beloved model was retired in the early 2000s. First debuted in 1978, the Supra was the higher model of the Celica and was known as the Celica Supra MK. Lightweight and fast, older models of this sports car are still bought and sold by collectors. Instead of looking toward the past, however, Toyota has designed the brand new Supra with the future in mind. The newest 2019 Toyota Supra instead gets a sleek, modern design, with a long hood, a pronounced nose cone, and gently sloping roofline. Combined with power and comfort, Supra fans now have something to be excited about. The Supra is back and supposed to hit markets by late summer 2019. The all new Supra is planned to be on the market for the 2020 model year, so it should be really for ready in late summer. The expected starting price is around $40,000. The Launch Edition should start around $55,250.
The Supra Launch Edition is available in Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0 exterior colors. They will have red mirror caps and 19-inch forged matte black alloy wheels. The Absolute Zero White and Nocturnal Black Supra Launch Editions have red interior. The seats are wrapped in red leather, with red leather steering wheel grips, and a red center console. The Renaissance Red 2.0 Supra Launch Edition will have black leather interior, including black seats, a black steering wheel, and black center console.
Toyota offers a basic warranty for 36 months or 36,000 miles covering all components outside of normal wear and maintenance. Toyota has powertrain coverage for 60 months or 60,000 miles for engine, transmission/transaxle, and all drive systems. Toyota's rust through coverage is for 60 months and unlimited miles to cover corrosive perforation of sheet metal.
The all new Supra's engine sits as far back and as low as possible to take advantage of a low center of gravity. It has 50:50 front to back weight distribution. With 335 horse power and 365 pound feet of torque, it can go from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds. The Supra has a top speed of 155 miles per hour.
The Supra doesn't skimp on tech features. It has a 6.5-inch display screen with navigation, Bluetooth and iPod capability. The screen is upgradable to an 8.8-inch wide-format touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and a head-up display. Safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane departure warning.
Only a lucky few will be able to get the GR Supra Launch Edition as it is limited to only 1,500 units, which are available in Renaissance Red 2.0, Nocturnal or Absolute Zero. Each one has red mirror caps, unique matte-black wheels, and an individually numbered interior badge with Akio Toyoda’s signature.
It will be athletic and expressive with jewel LED headlights and a wide grille. The grille will bring cool air to the turbocharged engine to optimize performance. It has a double bubble roof to provide space and reduces aerodynamic drag. The flared rear spoiler reduces body lift and keep the Supra on the ground at top speeds.
The Supra will have a straight six engine. It will be a turbocharged, 3.0-liter engine with 335 horsepower and 332 pound feet of torque. It will be rear wheel drive. It is unknown what transmission options may be available. Toyota is planning for a second powertrain, a gasoline-electric hybrid with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but has not confirmed when that will be available.
